MYSTICAL IRRAWADDY RIVER CRUISE TOUR (8 Days/ 7 Nights)

 

The unique Pandaw river expedition concept evolved here from the vestiges of the colonial Irrawaddy Flotilla Company. Pandaw were built here and in Burma we learnt to master river navigation at its worst. These lessons were applied to the other rivers of Asia.

Places en-route: Yangon - Bagan - Mandalay - Yangon

 

 

DAY 1: YANGON ARIVAL                 

Meet on arrival at Yangon International Airport and transfer to hotel. Today's sightseeing tour includes the old colonial-style city center with the gilded SULE PAGODA, dating back over 2,000 years, BOGYOKE (SCOTT’S) MARKET with hundreds of stores and a visit of a gems shop. The tour continues to CHAUK HTAT GYI, a huge reclining Buddha image followed by a photo stop made at KARAWEIK HALL, a royal floating barge. An extended visit to SHWEDAGON PAGODA, one of the world’s most spectacular religious monuments, will conclude the tour of this picturesque Garden City. The golden dome of the Shwedagon Pagoda rises 98 meters above its base and is covered with 60 tons of pure gold.

DAY 2: YANGON – BAGAN (B)

Transfer to Yangon Airport for domestic flight to Bagan. Upon arrival in Bagan, transfer to hotel and proceed for sightseeing starting with the busy local market and continuing with visits to a diverse selection of the most important pagodas and temples such as SHWEZIGON PAGODA, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century, KU BYAUK GYI, a temple with exquisite murals of Jataka scenes, KHAY MIN GA TEMPLE, noted for its spectacular panoramic view of the area’s many monuments and ANANDA TEMPLE with four huge standing Buddha images and numerous seated figures in niches around the galleried interior.

Afternoon, a visit of a lacquer craftsmen’s workshop in nearby MYINKABA village and sightseeing to MANUHA TEMPLE, built in mon style in 1059, NANBAYA TEMPLE, a unique sandstone monument, said to have been the palace of King Manuha and MYINGABA GU BYAUKGYI TEMPLE, noted for its ancient mural paintings under the protection of UNESCO. Observe sunset in the vicinity of Bagan’s ancient monuments.

DAY 3: BAGAN – RV PANDAW (every Tuesday and Friday) (B, L, D)

The embarkation is 11.00 hrs (RV Pandaw 11.30 hrs) at Bagan Aye Yar jetty. Welcome Cocktail in the Saloon. The Cast off time is at 11.30 hrs (RV Pandaw 12 noon). Lunch will be served at 13.00. In the late afternoon stop in a typical river village.

DAY 4: YANDABO – LOCAL VILLAGE (B, L, D)            

Cruise all day with stop enroute in the morning to visit Yandabo, a typical river village specialize in Pot-Making, where the peace treaty of the First Anglo-Burmese war was signed on Feb. 24, 1826. Moor overnight nearby a village (Ywar Thit Gyi or Pauk Myaing Pauk Taw) few miles away from Ava Bridge.

DAY 5: MANDALAY ARRIVAL – AMARAPURA& SAGAING (B)

Enjoy the sunrise. After an early breakfast, the passengers will disembark at Sagaing Jetty (Thursday only) or Gawein jetty (Sunday Only) at around 09.30/10.00 hrs. After disembarkation, drive to Amarapura, 15 km from Mandalay. Visit MAHAGANDAYON, a famous Buddhist monastery, where more than a thousand monks live and study; continue to 200-year-old U BEIN teak bridge, built in 1782 at the time when Amarapura was the royal capital. Visit of BAGAYA MONASTERY with a superb collection of Buddha statues.

DAY 6: MANDALAY (B)                                     

A comprehensive sightseeing tour of Mandalay includes MAHAMUNI PAGODA with its spectacular Buddha image covered with thick layers of gold leaves, SHWE INBIN, one of the most outstanding monasteries in the country, SHWE NAN DAW KYAUNG or GOLDEN PALACE MONASTERY, a superb example of a traditional wooden building and KUTHODAW PAGODA, known as the world’s largest book, consisting of 729 marble slabs engraved with Buddhist scriptures. A visit is also made to a jetty to observe daily life at the river and to a craftsmen’s workshop to see Kalaga tapestries being created.

DAY 7: MANDALAY – YANGON (B)

Drive to the new Mandalay Airport for domestic flight to YANGON. Upon arrival in Yangon, transfer to the hotel for check-in. The balance of the day is at leisure to pursue individual interests.

DAY 8: YANGON – DEPARTURE (B)

Afterbreakfast, if time permit, sightseeing to Strand road with famous The Strand hotel visit. And take a relax along the busy Yangon jetty. Continue the old colonial-style city center with photo stop.

Transfer to Yangon International Airport for departure.

Every effort will be made to ensure that the published cruise itinerary is followed as closely as possible, however, given uncertain river and other local conditions, all schedules and itineraries are subject to alterations and delays at short notice.
