An ancient axe was discovered at the Lang Ca relic site in northern Phu Tho Province, home of the Hung Kings, who founded Vietnam about 4,000 years ago.
Archeologists said the item was 2,000 to 3,000 years old. The axe head is shaped like the traditional Vietnamese shoe and is 5.5 centimeters high and 8 centimeters long.
One side of the axe is decorated with elaborate patterns of a sickle-shaped boat, with three people raising their hands to the sky. A carving under the boat depicts a hunting dog facing a stag.
There is also a carved pattern of eight persimmon flowers.
In 1993, two ancient bronze bowls were discovered 2 meters underground in front of the entrance gate of Phu Tho Province’s Thien Co Temple, according to Nguyen Huu Yet, who is in charge of managing the temple.
The age of the bowls has not yet been determined.
Phu Tho Province is considered the ancestral land of the Vietnamese people. Every year, the province hosts the Hung King’s Temple Festival from the 9th to the 11th day of the third Lunar month to honor the nation’s founders.
